Mary Ann Mulford has been and continues to be a heroine! She encouraged her husband, Charles, to attend Iowa State University. She supported Charles financially and provided moral support while he was completing his university work. Mary Ann made many sacrifices for her husband and two children, David and Kathleen. She was always there when needed and she was and continues to be an important role model for them. When the children were growing up, Mary Ann always seemed to be able to find time to attend one more youth activity, or proof one more school term paper, or offer suggestions with regard to the proper techniques needed to get desired notes to emerge from the piano or horn being mastered. Even though she found it necessary to delay her own higher education and to attend part-time, Mary Ann was honored by Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa. Members of the family (both Chuck's and Mary Ann's) and friends know that she can always be counted on when they need an ear or advice.

Mary Ann Mulford continues to be a heroine! She is a wonderful and loving grandmother. Non-family children recognize her love quickly, too, the love that springs from her toward all children. They quickly seek her lap and attention. She continues to develop her oil and water color painting techniques and learn more about music. Since receiving her B.S. from Iowa State University with honors, she has continued to serve as a role model, actively participating in learning in many settings, and has encouraged her children to seek opportunities for growth and learning. She has always spoken out against any kind of prejudice and discrimination and this has been a very positive influence on her family and friends.
Mary Ann will always be a heroine for her husband. She has never stopped loving and supporting him, despite his shortcomings, and she has always been his best friend in addition to being his loving wife. Sometimes, her family wishes that she would "Say no" a bit more often to friends or family who continue to turn to her so often and not always be available, but she continues being the loving, understanding and compassionate person that she has always been. Yes, she is indeed a real heroine!
