Mary Jane (Ross) Brown is honored in the Plaza of Heroines for her love and service to family and community. Mary Jane graduated from Iowa State College in home economics education in 1953. Born in Timber Lake, South Dakota in 1935, Mary Jane attended South Dakota State College for two years before transferring to Iowa State. She met her husband Thayer E. Brown II at Iowa State and they were married in Ames in 1957. She taught home economics for three years.

Mary Jane and Thayer live and farm near Turin, Iowa. Mother of three children-Jane, Eric, and Ross-Mary Jane is a skilled quilter, gardener, cook, world traveler, and important member of the family farm "team." For years she has generously donated time to 4-H; Iowa State Extension; and her local school hospital and community. Her family honors and appreciates her always.
