Mary Jo Haugo

Mary Josephine Haugo was born October 8, 1922 in Boone, Iowa. Her parents were Grace Lucinda Tallman Williams and Dewitt Q. "Duke" Williams. She had three brothers: Roe, Don and Jim Williams. Mary's family moved to Des Moines when Duke received a position teaching at East High. After Mary graduated from high school, she enrolled at Iowa State University. She completed an education curriculum and received her bachelor's degree in 1945. Mary taught school for one year.

On June 6, 1946, Mary and Walter Haugo, an ISU graduate, were married. They moved to Litchfield, Minnesota, where Walt started a vet med practice. Mary and Walt had four sons. Mary is a wife, mother, business manager and community volunteer. She helped spearhead school bond issues, church fundraising and PEO activities. Mary has a selfless attitude about her family and friends. Her greatest asset is strength of character and optimism. Mary Jo is a wonderful wife, a special mom and a fabulous person. She is a strong ISU alumna.
