Mary LaVonne Hildman Heitman was born on October 16, 1923, at Ionia, Iowa, to Angela Gotto and Louis John Hildman. She was the youngest of eleven children - 5 brothers and 5 sisters - and is the sole survivor. Mary LaVonne married Milton George Heitman on January 23, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa, and they farmed for over forty years near Marengo, Iowa. They raised eight children – Angela Rose, George Louis, Susan Marie Heitman Fultz, Stephanie Kay, Leon Edward, Dwight Jon, Mary Pat, and Renee Jean Heitman Drost. They are all residents of Iowa. My husband, Terry Lee Fultz, daughters Danielle Marie and Cerissa Nicole, and I are honoring my mother for all the love and simple acts of thoughtfulness bestowed upon all that have known her. I admired my mother and placed her on a pedestal before the birth of my two daughters; but now she resides on a skyscraper. Through her actions and shared experiences of my youth and maturation, she gave me the gift of becoming a whole person – daughter, mother, wife, sister, friend, reader, writer, artist, environmentalist, and citizen of the earth. All that she shared I give to my daughters and the tradition endures.
