Mary Margaret Murphy received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Iowa State University with a major in Marketing in August of 1990. Mary was the first Executive Director of the Iowa Falls Main Street program started in October of 1990. She was fresh out of ISU. Mary genuinely loved Iowa Falls and the "Main Street" program and became a state wide award winner. She was a skilled and admired director. She could schmooze with the governor, march in parades, discuss renovation costs of historical buildings, and confer with business people. Mary was a skilled planner and was able to get more from her board and encourage volunteers better than most Main Street Directors. Mary represented Iowa Falls in a professional manner and showed her community in a positive light. Mary received the Warren Coleman Honorary Award in November 1996 for leadership and service for the example she set for all Iowa Falls Lions. Mary was the First female member of the Lions Club in Iowa Falls. Mary's award was posthumous. Mary died in Colorado on July 30, 1996 after being seriously injured in an automobile accident. She was 28 years old. We humbly request that Mary's name be added to the "Plaza Of Heroines" at Iowa State University.
