Mary Theobald was born on November 3, 1892. On November 22, 1910, she married Joseph Mayer. They made their home in Stacyville, Meyer, and Osage, Iowa. She was of German heritage. She worked hard caring for her large family, but always found time to help someone whose need was greater than hers. Life was not easy, but she found enjoyment in her life's work. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, crocheting, and playing cards. Through her example she taught that hard work, honesty, laughter, a time for pleasure and faith in God were good virtues to follow. May she rest in peace, her ethics will live on in her descendants.
