Mildred Walker had a unique ability to make others happy, knowing they could go to the Wallace Shop for the right gift for the right occasion. Many looked forward to being invited to parties where she was hostess. And she was respected for her support of fine arts.


Born July 6, 1899 in St. Paul, MN. Died September 25, 1991, Cedar Falls, IA. Grew up in DeWitt. Graduated with B.S. in Home Economics from ISU in 1922. Member of Mortar Board. Married, 1 child. ISU Extension Dept. clothing specialist until 1929. Owned and operated Wallace Shop gift store in Cedar Falls until 1978. Received 50-year award for membership in Gamma Phi Beta sorority in 1970. Longtime member of Chapter FV, PEO, Delta Phi Delta art sorority and Tuesday Club, Cedar Falls. Founder of Gamma Phi Beta chapter at UNI.
