Born October 26, 1918 Miriam was raised on the family farm in Denmark, Iowa. She graduated from Denmark High School and Iowa State University in 1941. She served as president of Barton Hall. She taught Home Economics in high schools at New Market, Iowa and Burlington, Iowa. On June 18, 1944 she married Keith E. Dickson (ISU '43) and they live in Ames.
They have four children. Joyce Hertz (ISU 167) and received a Masters degree at Michigan Univ. David K. Dickson an attorney in Ames. Attended Luther College at Decorah Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa. Jonathan L. Dickson (ISU '71) and University of Iowa. A Cardiologist in Fargo North Dakota. James E. Dickson (ISU '74) and MBA at University of Chicago. A Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner in Ames.
Miriam has been active in the United Church of Christ. She served on the Mayflower Retirement Home board of directors at Grinnell, Iowa for six years. Part of the time she was Vice President of the board. She was active in the Parent Teachers Association when her children were in school and served as president. She is a member of PEO-HN in Ames where she has served as president.
Miriam is a gentle person devoted to her family and the best interests of the community. She has always encouraged her family to be good citizens and to get a good education at all levels. She has always been supportive of her husband in his profession in his church and community affairs.
