Pamela Williams began her career at Iowa State University in February 1973 at the University Library. With over 33 years of service, working in many different areas of the library, Pam is being honored by her Library Friends into the Plaza of Heroines for her retirement on December 8, 2006. Pam has dedicated herself to making Iowa State and the University Library a welcoming and supportive place for students faculty and staff to work and learn. Throughout her career she has initiated and led numerous professional training programs to broaden perspectives, improve morale and increase leadership and customer service skills among library staff. She has worked diligently on issues related to and led improvements in accessibility, sensitivity awareness, and diversity. She founded the Iowa Library Association’s support personnel division, serving as chair and in several other leadership roles. In recognition of her many outstanding contributions, Ms. Williams received the Iowa State Board of Regents Staff Excellence Award in 1997 and the Carroll Ringgenberg Award in 2006.
In addition to the enthusiasm that she brings to her job and to the students and staff that she works with, Ms. Williams has been a long-time booster of Iowa State University. She and her husband attend numerous Cyclone athletic events. They exhibit constant and contagious dedication to and good will for Iowa State University.
Working in many departments of the library, Pam has touched many lives over the years. She has exhibited exceptional dedication and service. Pam has always been more than willing to help a student in need, offer a listening ear to a staff member, or assist in whatever way she could. Pam has been a well respected and honored leader to co-workers and staff she has supervised. Her positive outlook and endless energy and enthusiasm are an inspiration to her colleagues. Pam's contagious laugh and talents will be greatly missed at the library. We wish her much happiness in her retirement!
