The Awards Committee has chosen Randi Peters to be the Carrie Chapman Catt Award recipient for 2020. The award, which will be presented at the Annual Meeting, recognizes outstanding community service.
Randi is past president and past co-president of our League and serves on our fundraising committee currently. The record of Randi's community leadership is long and varied, affecting nearly every aspect of our community. She served as president of the Ames Chapter of the American Association of University Women and co-president of the Ames Chapter of the American Red Cross Disaster Response Team. Randi served as president of the board of the Story County Center for Creative Justice.
Randi has served the community in a wide array of organizations and ad hoc committees, including the Ames Community Schools Multicultural Committee, Ames Foundation Board, Habitat for Humanity Board, Youth and Shelter Services Board, Ames Chamber of Commerce Education and Government Affairs Committee, and Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation Board.
Randi is co-founder and vice-president for community relations of VenuWorks, which manages entertainment facilities and theaters around the country. She and husband Steve have five children and five grandchildren. Randi is active in her faith group and has been a worker and leader at Bethesda Lutheran Church, including being president of the Women Ministries.
Randi lives the philosophy expressed by Carrie Chapman Catt: Service to a just cause rewards the worker with more real happiness and satisfaction than any other venture in life.
