Rose grew up and graduated from high school in Benton, Iowa. She went on to attend Iowa State College in home economics education, graduating in 1933. Graduate work was done at Iowa State and Colorado State.
She taught in Fort Atkinson, New Market, Corning, and East High in Des Moines. Besides teaching, she also coached girls’ basketball in New Market and Corning, as well as had the school lunch program in Corning. A note of interest is that she taught the first boys’ home economics class in the state of Iowa while she was in Corning.
She married William H. Wheatley in 1944 and they resided in Corning. Together they owned & operated Corning Cleaners for 35 years. Their daughters all attended Iowa State, of which they were so very proud.
With love and affection, we honor our mother, Rose.
