Ruth Hamilton

Ruth Hamilton has contributed long and outstanding service to the Ames community. She was elected three times to 3-year terms on the Ames School Board 1970-79. She served as the Board's president from 1973 to 1979. Ruth was a member of the Ames Visiting Nurses Association Board when it merged with Mary Greeley in 1984. She continued as part of the steering committee in 1985 to study the merger of the Story County Public Health Nurses Homemaker Health Aides and the Ames Visiting Nurses Association to form Homeward. She served on the first Homeward Advisory Board. Ruth was president of the League of Women Voters of Ames from 1966 to 1968. She is a long-time supporter of Youth and Shelter Services (YSS).

She was honored as outstanding philanthropist to YSS. She is currently a member of the YSS Foundation Board. Ruth was elected in 1988 for a 6-year term as a Story County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner. She remains active in her church, Collegiate Presbyterian, and is a member of the Board of the Green Hills Residents Association.
