It is with great pride and pleasure I request my sister Tammy Hickman-Fay be honored with a brick on the Plaza of Heroines.

Tammy grew up in a family plagued by poverty, mental illness, and alcohol abuse. Though she moved nearly 10 times and attended 9 different schools as a child she graduated from high school a year early and put herself through college at Iowa State to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting with honors in 1983.

While raising four children Tammy returned to Iowa State to earn her Master’s Degree in family and consumer sciences with specialization in financial planning graduating in 2003. Her life’s work is to educate the public, especially women on the value and necessity of financial literacy. She works closely with child and family ministries the Dallas County Hospital and several women’s shelters in the Des Moines area.

Tammy has been married to Mike Fay, also an ISU graduate for 21 years. They have four children- Quentin, Colyn, Michaela, and Courtney.

As her sister and friend, I can think of no one more deserving of this honor.
