All her children attended colleges in Iowa. Velma received her own degree in Floriculture from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids at age 46.

Throughout her life Velma was a guiding force to her children. Her love patience and perseverance showed us the way. The values she instilled in us survive today as her legacy and will be passed to her grandchildren and beyond. Our tears may dry but our hearts will never.
