Wendy Kay Wintersteen

She didn't sew thousands of quilts to keep her family fed during the Depression like her grandmother. She didn't trudge through Minnesota snowstorms to a one-room school house like her mother. As a girl, she kept a collection of toy horses, had a dog named "Tiny" and played under giant elms as cicadas hummed in the dry Kansas wind. And even though her first college math professor told her she had no future in college, she earned a Ph.D. and became a professor at Iowa State University. So with this simple brick, I honor my wife, Wendy Kay Wintersteen, a strong-minded woman, and thank all of those who assisted her on the path of life with their advice and knowledge, friendship and laughter.
